Congratulations to Timothy Smith of Commerce, Texas whose standard gear, AeroVee powered Sonex (S/N 0028) flew for the first time on July 18th! “AW inspection was passed on 24 May 2020, and first flight at the crack of dawn on 18 July 2020, by the owner/builder/Test Pilot,” writes Tim. “Landed safely with very few squawks.” The scratch build project deserves a perseverance award, having been started in 2000! “Plans were purchased on 5 March 2000, as well as a pallet of aluminum, and started cutting metal in May. The airplane scratch building process looks daunting, but its like eating an elephant, just one bite at a time.” Gold Wings are on the way!
