Sonex First Flight: William Carr
10-29-07

Congratulations to William Carr of Carmel, Indiana, whose Jabiru 3300 powered, Standard Gear Sonex (S/N 630) flew for the first time on October 28. "She flies like a lady," wrote William.  "I got 10's on the landing from the three airport regulars that were in attendance. (more due to the aircraft than me, I think)." Notice Jon Ogle's AeroVee powered Sonex in the background (above, left), William's hangar mate at Carmel's Sheridan airport. Gold Wings are on the way to William!

Sonex First Flight: Martin Davidow
10-29-07

Congratulations to Martin Davidow of Palm Desert, California, whose AeroVee powered, Tri-Gear Sonex (S/N 705) flew for the first time on October 26. "It works!!" reported Martin. "Now the fun begins. Thanks to all at Sonex for your support, help and of course a great aircraft kit." Martin's EAA Technical Counselor and test pilot, Ron Caraway, made David's first flight and is pictured above, at left, congratulating Martin. Gold Wings are on the way!

Sonex Releases Education Initiative Starter Packs

As part of our commitment to youth education with the Sonex Education Initiative, Sonex Aircraft, LLC has announced today release of the new Sonex Education Starter Pack, a scalable metalworking project and curriculum guide.

This fun and interesting metalworking project is the actual assembly constructed by prospective Sonex Aircraft builders at Sonex Builder Workshops held several times annually at our factory in Oshkosh, WI. It is designed to teach the basic metalworking skills required to build our line of aircraft, which offer the Best Performance Per Dollar in the kit aircraft marketplace. This project and its documentation have been refined via use by hundreds of Sonex Workshop attendees and it is ideally suited to provide youth with an introductory exposure to aircraft construction.

Waiex First Flight: Don Gum

Congratulations to Don Gum of Beavercreek, Ohio, whose AeroVee powered, Tri-Gear Waiex (S/N 37) flew for the first time on October 14. "It was an uneventful joy," reports Don. "It lifted off in less than 600 feet and climbed out at 80 MPH with a rate of climb of 800 to 1000 feet per minute." Gold Wings are on the way!

Congratulations to Richard Showalter of Culpeper, Virginia, whose AeroVee powered, Standard Gear Sonex (S/N 695) flew for the first time on October 10. "Achtung, Achtung, N695VW painted like Eric "Bubby" Hartman's German WWII Luftwaffe aircraft took to the skies over Culpeper Virginia tonight," reported Richard. Sonex in the News: Kerry Gets Ink Again!
10-11-07

Sonex employee Kerry Fores, scratch builder of Lindy Award-winning Sonex SN# 9 "Metal Illness", has sharpened his pencil, er... keyboard for EAA Sport Aviation Magazine once again in the October, 2007 issue.

"Unexpected Destinations; A Story of Time Travel" appears in the EAAers in action: In the Spotlight section of the magazine and weaves the tale of Kerry's experiences traveling through space and time in his Sonex. 4th Annual American Sonex Assn. Fly-In a Hit!
10-11-07

John Davis (Sonex S/N 523) held his 4th Annual American Sonex Association Fly-In in Crossville, Tennessee last weekend with much success. "Each year we seem to double in size and it is getting a little scary," reported John. "This year we had 74 registered attendees, 11 aircraft flew in and gave 41 orientation rides on Friday and Saturday." 36th Sonex Builder Workshop a Success
09-12-07

The 36th Sonex Aircraft Builder Workshop was held September 6-7 at the Sonex Factory in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Thursday-Friday Workshop attracted a crowd of folks interested in learning all things Sonex. On Thursday evening, workshop attendees heard from two guest speakers: Charlie Becker from EAA spoke about Sport Pilot, Aircraft Registration and services EAA can provide to Sonex builders; Bob Mackey from the EAA Insurance Plan and Falcon Insurance gave some tips on insuring your aircraft construction project. We enjoyed great weather and workshop attendees were able to see Sonex factory prototypes in-flight on Thursday. The next Sonex Aircraft Builder Workshop is scheduled for November 3-4, 2007.
