First B-Model Kits Shipped This Week!

Sonex and Waiex B-Model Kits:

Sonex Aircraft is excited to announce the first customer shipments of Sonex and Waiex B-Model kits! Two Waiex-B Kit Minus Tail packages and one Sonex-B Wing Conversion Kit left our warehouse this afternoon, with several more kits scheduled to ship over the coming weeks!

This event marks a significant milestone in an intensive new aircraft development program that only began last Fall. Our thanks and congratulations go-out to the entire Sonex Aircraft team who worked so hard to design, prototype, test, produce, organize, market, sell, pack and ship this new aircraft model in such a short period of time. We are very excited for early B-Model customers to experience all of the enhancements and the high quality put into these new kits.

Progress continues on the first customer B-Model Quick Build Kits, which will begin shipping immediately after EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016, and will be on-display in the Sonex shop for viewing during Sonex factory tours throughout the show!

The B-Model will be on-display in the Sonex Aircraft booth at AirVenture 2016, Booth# 622 in the North Aircraft Display Area. Be sure to check it out!

Sonex Aircraft in the News: SubSonex Personal Jet Featured in Twin & Turbine Magazine

SubSonex Quick Build Kit: $42,000

The SubSonex Personal Jet is in the news again, this time with a flight review by pilot/author Matthew McDaniel for Twin & Turbine magazine. Not only does the July issue of the publication feature the SubSonex, but the aircraft is this month's "Featured Plane!"

"Microjet Fun - Flying the SubSonex, with a Bonus!" can be read in the magazine's digital edition, and on page 6 of the print edition. Matt McDaniel covers the SubSonex aircraft, the transition training process with Desert Aerospace's BonusJet, and the SubSonex permanent LOA checkride process. With the availability of BonusJet training with the TJ-100 turbojet engine system, SubSonex pilots have an established avenue for qualifying and preparing to fly the single-place SubSonex.

The SubSonex will once again be featured at Sonex Aircraft, LLC's EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016 display, and in airshow performances throughout the week flown by 2015 Bill Barber award winner Bob Carlton.

With the SubSonex's new kit pricing, announced earlier this year, you too can be a jet pilot - pick-up your SubSonex Quick Build Kit for only $42K! Don't forget, you can see the SubSonex in action anytime via our YouTube channel's SubSonex playlist!

Congratulations to Ervin and Jerilyn Geiger of Columbia City, Indiana, whose AeroVee powered, tri-gear Sonex (S/N 1558) flew for the first time on May 19th! "I got to be the test pilot for the first flight of my wife’s Sonex tri-gear that she built (under my watchful eye of course :)," writes Ervin. "Being a retired math teacher, and downright meticulous to building details, her precision shows by the way the airplane flies, stable as if it were on rails! Many thanks go out to Joe and Tom with the Sonex Factory T-Flight training program. The transitional training made the first flight such a joy. If anyone is trying to decide whether or not to spend the money to do the T-Flight my advice is to do it. It will be the best money you will spend to get your new airplane into the air safely while minimizing first-flight stress." Gold Wings are on the way to the Geigers!

NKET Audits B-Models and Xenos Quick Build

Sonex Aircraft is proud to host the FAA's National Kit Evaluation Team (NKET) again this week, as they audit the new Sonex and Waiex B-Model kits, and the new Xenos Motorglider Quick Build Kit!

NKET evaluation is used to establish a kit's compliance with Experimental Amateur Built aircraft "major portion" or "51 percent" rules. FAA NKET Amateur-Built Fabrication and Assembly Checklists for the new Sonex Aircraft kit offerings will be completed during this week's visit, and once approved by the FAA, will be available for download from the FAA database. More information about the NKET process, along with links to our current kit checklists may be found on our Aircraft Certification Page. Once final checklists are posted by the FAA, Sonex Aircraft will notify builders and post links to our web site.

Builders use these checklists to simplify the airworthiness inspection process for their completed aircraft. NKET checklists are especially important for kit sales in many foreign markets, where U.S. Experimental Amateur Built rules are often used as boilerplate definitions of their own regulations.

The NKET is once again using Sonex Aircraft to train new team members during this audit. Sonex hosted the very first organization and training exercises for the NKET in 2009, and participated in the ARC committee tasked with evaluating the EAB regulations, ultimately resulting in the NKET's formation. In hosting this latest batch of NKET trainees, Sonex is proud to continue its leadership role in the future of our industry!
